After struggling to pick a topic for my I search paper a discussion we had in class hit help me realize want I wanted to focus on. After watching a video present in class of officer using extreme force, I've decided to focus on warm police brutality in America. I feel like this is a strong topic to discuss because it's becoming so common. In my paper I will discuss topics based on my thing I have chosen which is how much is too much. Touching bases on when police have the right to use lethal force and when they should use it. I will also give examples of cases when police officers have abuse their powers being used force that I think is unnecessary in the situation , most leading to Death. I personally think it needs to change because families are being broken from in my opinion careless actions of officers.
Most of my information was found on various News websites and police articles , which I will later use to defend my argument that police abuse their power with unnecessary force. The main argument that was focused on during the film was if the use of high doses of vitamin c is better for your health than prescription drugs. Some of the major claims that were mad through out the film was that high doses of victim c can stop the spread of cancer. High doses of niacin can treat depression or even alcoholism. A diet that consists of raw food is a better choice because cooking food destroys nutritional value. I can't really say if I agree or disagree with the main focus of the film but I can say that I do have faith. I know that drugs are toxic for the body and have side effects but I don't truly know if high doses of vitamin c have side effects or not. Even though before and after pictures were taken of the positive effects of victim c but I feel like that isn't really enough. Some of the claims that were discussed were also hard to believe. The face that something as simple as victims and a good diet can cure diseases but billions of dollars are spent doing research on cures using prescription drugs.
In this blog I'll be summarizing movie that was played in my English 100 course. The movie food matters focused on the importance of eating right and how can effect your life/body. The main focus was a debate about whether nutritional therapy is better than commercial drugs backing up there statement by saying that 106,000 people die from prescription drugs. In contrast to that only 10 people died in a 25 year span have died from the use of vitamins or vitamin overdose. Doctors often say that the use of vitamin may be bad for your body but they say little about the harm that prescription drugs can do to your body. The healthy body is a good thing but it makes no money, meaning that if everyone in the United States were healthy the drug market would make no money. They also stated in the film that the United States is a place that treat illnesses not cures them because the drug industry makes billions of dollars due to people being sick and buying medication. The perfect drug is one that doesn't work. Instead of over-the-counter prescription medicine you could replace it with vitamins , which not only treats one symptom but cures many. They discuss that high dose of vitamin C can cure diseases such as cancer , heart disease and even lupus. This is known is nutritional therapy, it isn't only about taking vitamins but also eating right. A diet that consists of super foods and raw food will leave your body feeling right and will be self healing. Nutritional therapy is illegal in the United States, so they operate out of Mexico where many Americans travel to receive treatment. Another claim that was made was that the body is self healing and that I healthy body cannot get cancer ,with the right nutrients that are already in your body.
Wow I can't believe it's already week 10 of my English 100 course. This week my professor introduced us to our next major assignment , the I search research paper. While he was still introducing the assignment I began thinking of the topic that I wanted to research. He gave us ideas on a topic by using a photo that was presented to the class. This picture was of a broken family living in poverty in the United States. We observed the picture looking for the text , subtext and the context of the photo. The condition the family was living in didn't made me think that this was here in the usa. During the week we also watched a movie that helped brainstorm more ideas for our I search papers. The movie Food matters discussed a lot of ideas on health and how the food you eat effects your body. It also discussed the negative effects of using drug versus vitamin usage. Watching the video not only gave me a idea for my paper but imformed me about a lot of things I didn't know.
Nothing really to blog about outside of school. I feel like outside of school I don't have much time to do anything but school work. In this blog I will be discussing an article that I've chosen from Room for Debate from New York Times. "Marijuana is far less toxic than alcohol or cocaine" is the article that I have picked to focus on. This article stood out to me as I was looking through the different genres of debates because I didn't think or know that this information was true and I wanted to read more. The article touches bases of how marijuana might and might not be better than the use of alcohol in growing adults. Many of the people discussed in this debate doesn't agree with this but some think this statement could be true.
Robert Gable is an emeritus professor of psychology at Claremont Graduate University. He thinks no drug is good for teenagers but compared to alcohol, marijuana is a hundred times safer. He took the effective dose of after drugs and also took the effective dose of each drug and divided them. After doing this you will find the safety margin of the drug. The safety margin of alcohol is 10 versus marijuana which is 1000 , which is might higher (better). This means the it takes 1000 times the amount of mary j to overdose but only 10 times to overdose on alcohol. He agreed with the statement. Jill cooper is the associate director of the safe transportation research and Education center at the university of California, Berkeley. The use of marijuana in teens has increased over the pass years and the uses of alcohol has decreased. She thinks that people couldn't feel that teens are better off high of weed than being drunk. Driving under the influence of marijuana is as bad as driving under the influence of alcohol. People think that marijuana can make safer drivers because they drive slower but this can be proven wrong. Chemicals in marijuana effect aspects that are important in the driving process. Attentiveness, visual scanning, orientation ability and basic motor skills, and lastly the perception of time and speed. Marijuana is a drug that is second mostly found in drivers of crashes after alcohol. Jill Cooper disagree with the statement. Deon price is a youth career transition instructor for the department of labor, is a motivational speaker and youth life-skills coach in Northern California. "How could doing any drug be good news on any level?" Deon Price argued. He agreed that marijuana may be less reckless than alcohol and other drugs and that marijuana is looked at more lightly now due to the legalization efforts but marijuana is still a bad idea for youth turning into adults. Marijuana relaxes people making them unmotivated and this is the wrong time in life to be in slow motion. Even though marijuana can help people with medical conditions its can effect the nerves system and a persons memory. Joseph D. McNamara retired police chief of San Jose, California, is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. The government can't win the drug war no matter how hard they fight , so is it really a war worth fighting? Teen will use marijuana weather it's illegal or legal but it being illegal gives kids criminal records that they don't need under their belts. No one has ever died from the use of marijuana but alcohol and cocaine is a different story. He doesn't seem like he completely agreed or disagreed until he stated that marijuana mellows people but alcohol and cocaine excites people to do violence. Then says that driving under the influence of any drug is a no but driving under the influence of marijuana is safer because it gives you the opposite speeding reckless effect as alcohol or cocaine. I first I thought I was on the fence with this debate but as I read the different debate I agree with the statement but I'm disagree with the use of marijuana during your early youth years. I just feel like the long term effect that it can have on your memory isn't worth it and you need your memory the most during this time of life. This just makes it harder on yourself in your future. I'm not saying I'm completely against smoking weed because I'm not saying that at all. I think that marijuana is a lot better than any of the other drugs out on the market including alcohol but it does still have bad effects on your brain. -- Write an introduction to the post that provides context about the photo and what we did in class.
-- Write about the photo's context, text, and subtext. -- Write your opinion about the photo's story AND argument, include a discussion about how this image affected you and how it prompted you to think about poverty in America. In this blog post I will talk about my revise plan for my creative non fiction paper.
I felt as though my paper didn't need much revision unless I met with my professor. During my the meeting professor magain pointed out parts in my paper that i should change to help it flow better for the readers. I plan to make these changes which include adding love letters to my valentine through out the story. I'm also revising my paper more they adding more detail and description about the surroundings talked about in my creative non fiction piece. In class we were assigned to write a one month memoir. We could pick any topic that happened in our lives within a month and the weekly reflection blog helped with picking a topic I wanted to focus on. This was the start of my process that I used to complete my first draft of my creative non fiction. Simply picking an event that happen to me within a month and being able to make it come to life with tons of descriptive words. Turning telling scenes into showing scenes. |
